Kindergarten Reader’s Workshop in December
Unit 5:
Early Reading and Thinking in Levels A-C
Beginning in mid
December our kindergarten readers will be learning skills and strategies that
will support them in moving through leveled books (levels A through C).
The big goals
within in this unit are
· For students to read conventionally,
mastering the skills that are expected at each level.
· For students to continue working with
their reading partners focusing on working together to preview their books,
make predictions and decode unknown words.
Ways you can help
at home:
· Have your child read daily for 15
minutes. They should reread the same
books to develop fluency and familiarity with sight words.
· Remind your child to point when they are
reading a leveled text (level A, B, …)
· If your child gets stuck on a word remind
them to look at the picture and the first letter in the word and think about
what makes sense.
· After your child reads a book have them
retell the book by saying what the whole book was about or by saying what
happened at the beginning and the end.
·
