Emergent Reading Unit
(September 28th-October 30th)
This reading unit teaches children story language and
story structure. The children will
learn to love familiar books and build thinking and conversation
around
books. They will use their memory of repeated
readings, their
knowledge of story language
and story structure, and illustrations to “read” familiar books.
For reading homework your child should read the books
they bring home. They should look at the
pictures and read the book from memory while using story language. If your child gets stuck, remind them to look
closely at the pictures and say what the character is doing. Please record the book your child reads each
night on their reading log in their homework folder. Please make sure your child returns their
book each day in order to bring a new book home each day.
