November
Wordless and
Unfamiliar Books
This is a short reading unit (2 weeks long) meant to
transition readers from emergent reading into conventional reading.
In this reading unit, the children are
expected to apply what they learned about story language, story structure and
overall comprehension to “read” wordless and unfamiliar picture books.
Overall, this unit provides the children with
an opportunity to further strengthen their comprehension skills before focusing
on word solving in the next several units coming up.
Unit Goals:
·
Students will demonstrate an understanding of
story elements, structure and language by “reading” wordless and unfamiliar
texts.
·
Students will transfer their knowledge of
emergent reading to wordless books.
·
Students will work with their partners in order
to strengthen their understanding of story language and story elements.
